E-commerce Scale-up
Rebuilding an E-commerce Platform to Handle 10M+ Black Friday Requests
An e-commerce company needed their platform rebuilt to handle 10x traffic spikes. Our team of 5 delivered a system that survived Black Friday with 10M+ requests and zero downtime.

The Challenge
The client was a fast-growing DTC brand doing $30M ARR, but their e-commerce platform buckled every time they ran a flash sale or seasonal promotion. The previous Black Friday, their site went down for 47 minutes during peak traffic, costing an estimated $380K in lost revenue. Their legacy platform was built on a single Next.js application with a Node.js API that made synchronous calls to a single database instance. The checkout flow alone had 14 API calls, and their CDN configuration was caching incorrectly, leading to stale inventory counts and overselling.
Our Solution
We deployed a team of 5 — 2 Go backend engineers for high-performance API services, 2 Next.js frontend developers, and 1 AWS cloud architect — in under two weeks. The team rebuilt the API layer in Go for maximum throughput, implemented edge caching with stale-while-revalidate patterns using CloudFront, designed an event-sourced inventory system that could handle concurrent updates without race conditions, optimized the checkout flow from 14 API calls down to 3 using GraphQL federation, and set up comprehensive load testing with Locust simulating 50K concurrent users. The entire platform was deployed on AWS with auto-scaling groups, Aurora PostgreSQL with read replicas, and ElastiCache for session and cart management.
Tech Stack
"Last Black Friday cost us $380K in downtime. This year, the platform handled 10 million requests without breaking a sweat. Quo's Go engineers are genuinely world-class — they built APIs that respond in under 15ms under load."
