The Challenge
The client was a seed-stage marketplace connecting local service providers with customers. They had a functional web MVP but were losing 60% of their mobile traffic to poor mobile web experience. Users were requesting native apps, and their competitors had already launched on both platforms. With limited seed funding, they couldn't afford separate iOS and Android teams, and their single full-stack developer had no mobile experience. They needed to launch on both platforms within 4 months to capture the summer season demand in their market.
Our Solution
We placed a lean, high-impact team of 2 — a senior React Native engineer with marketplace experience and a backend/mobile engineer proficient in Node.js and Firebase — who started within 7 days. The team built a cross-platform React Native application sharing 92% of code between iOS and Android, implemented real-time messaging and push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging, created a smooth booking and payment flow with Stripe integration, built offline-capable features using local storage for areas with poor connectivity, and implemented location-based search with map views using Google Maps SDK. The app went through 3 beta rounds with real users before launch, with each round informing UX improvements that contributed to the high rating.
